Horn of Africa Services (HOAS) is a multi-lingual, multicultural nonprofit organization offering individual and family counseling and referral services. We respond to the health, employment, housing and educational needs within communities from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and neighboring countries who are living in the Greater Seattle area. HOAS provides services by bilingual staff speaking in Amharic, Oromo, Tigrigna, and Somali.
HOAS provides assistance to East African immigrants and refugees, regardless of their religious, ethnic or political affiliations. Horn of Africa Services has been active in working to build a bridge between various East African groups by helping to create the Federation of East African Community Organizations in Seattle (FEACOS). FEOCAS, established in 1996 Is a coalition of six East African organizations who collaborate to identify common concerns and to implement solutions.
Horn of Africa Services conducts 'Job Readiness' workshops, monthly legal clinics, and an annual gift giving program for needy Families. In addition, Horn of Africa Services has successfully produced seven citizenship videos to disseminate information and help prospective individuals prepare for U.S. naturalization testing.

For the last 15 years HOAS has maintained a tradition of planning for the future by anticipating the changing needs of the East African refugee and immigrant population residing in and around King County. and developing new and innovative programs to meet these needs. Our programs today focus on responding to the emerging needs of children and families.
In 2001, HOAS expanded to provide the tools to help build the capacities for the economic independence that will ensure a successful future and allow them to lead personally satisfying lives. To this end HOAS will continue to provide ESL and citizenship classes, counseling, case management, Youth and family services, workshops, advocacy, and information and referral services. The programs developed by HOAS will continue to provide the types of service that focus on major issues that impact our clients' ability to succeed -- including language, job skills, housing, education, public assistance, domestic violence, mental and physical health, legal issues, career planning and immigration.
A big thanks to all HOAS board of directors, the staff, volunteers and leadership who have worked relentlessly to help us in achieving our ambitious goals. Although we have had a success year, our mission is far from over and we need to continue challenging ourselves and those we serve to be successful.
Our deepest thanks to organizations and everyone in the community for the continued support.
